Your child’s health is their greatest asset.
Often parents ask why they would take their perfect new born to see a chiropractor. A child’s spine is subject to many stresses, starting from the birth process. Birth, particularly when assisted, places an enormous strain on the spine causing small misalignments, which in turn can affect the function and development of the nervous system.
These stresses can result in ‘subluxation’ of the spine, where small misalignments irritate or impinge on nerves. Your nervous system conveys your messages for life—it controls all of your physical, mental and emotional functions. If there’s interference to these messages then function will be lost, even if you aren’t aware of it, and the body will not be 100% healthy.
As children grow, they are constantly running, playing, climbing, falling, tumbling and all of these activities place further tension on the spine. As well as physical stressors there can be chemical stressors such as colourings and flavourings in foods, toxins, medications and environmental pollutants. Kids also experience emotional hurts and upsets, which will also affect the nervous system.
Thankfully kids are very resilient and will usually bounce back quickly, but on occasion some of these stresses can have a more lasting effect and will build up over time, mostly without you being aware of them, much like a decaying tooth.
Often common conditions like colic, reflux, ear infections and asthma can result. Other indicators that things might not be quite ‘right’ are irritability, interrupted sleep, learning problems and ‘growing’ pains.
A chiropractor is trained to locate these areas of misalignment in the spine and use gentle, painless, low force techniques to allow the body to use its inborn healing capacity to function at its best. It allows the person to express their health and vitality.
Early detection of problems means better health for your child and allows them to express their full potential in life.
