Wyong Midwifery Birthing Service
Wyong Midwifery Birthing Service (WMBS) is a midwifery model of care. Women with no identified risks (as per national guidelines) may choose to birth at Wyong. Care will be provided by the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) or the Team Midwifery Practice (TMP). If risks or complication arise during your pregnancy labour, birth, or in the post birth period, your care will be transferred to Gosford.
There is no on-site obstetric medical cover for birthing services or postnatal care.
Wyong Midwifery Birthing Service has 3 comfortably furnished birthing rooms all with baths and an outdoor courtyard. Also included in the room is a CD player, telephone and comfortable chairs, bean bag & floor mat. Birth stool and mirror are also available for use. There is access to refreshment facilities.
There are 14 ensuite single rooms available for postnatal women who birth at Wyong. The normal length of stay for well healthy mothers and their babies is 4 to 48hrs. Midwifery care after the birth of your baby continues in the home by the midwives.
The midwife will fully explain the service to you at your first visit and provide you with a thorough information sheet and consent form to be completed and returned by 36 weeks.
Options of care at Wyong
The Midwifery Group Practice - MGP
A midwifery-led primary health care model for healthy women. You will have a primary known midwife within the midwifery group who will provide the majority of care throughout the pregnancy, birth and after the birth of your baby (home visits). Your midwife will endeavour to be with you during labour and birth.
Wyong Team Midwifery Program
A small team of midwives who will provide care during pregnancy, birth and after the birth of your baby – in hospital and/or at home. You will have a primary known midwife during your pregnancy.
